Drone Photography
Still or Video…lift your photography to a whole new level
Drones provide you with a whole new perspective, whether it is to capture a photograph from a position that you wouldn’t normally be able to reach or to capture a vista or landscape on video to tell a story…come with me to learn how to be a drone photographer.
Viewing the world from a different angle
Drones give you the ability to see things differently and can either be used to create video images to tell your story or on their own to produce still images to enhance your landscape photography.
I run two practical, hands-on, courses, both of which can be booked as half-day or full-day experiences:
For the complete beginner or for those who have only recently started drone flying, I run a Drone Flying Course that will teach you how to fly a drone safely and with confidence. If you don’t have your own drone yet, you can borrow one of mine for the duration of the course but you will still need to get a flyer ID from the CAA before the day of the course (it is free and is easy to do - I can help - see below for details of how to do this).
If you already own your own drone and are confident in piloting it, I run a more advanced Drone Photography Course that will teach you how to use your drone for photography and/or videography.
To get the most from the drone photography course, you will need to be comfortable with the relationship between ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed - if you don’t feel confident with the exposure triangle yet, please mention this when booking and I will adapt the course structure to include a lesson to help you with this.

Getting a Flyer ID
Drone and Model Aircraft flying is regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority.
I hold an Operator ID for my drones but if you wish to borrow them to fly on this course then you must have your own valid Flyer ID from the CAA.
To find out more, you can visit the CAA Site here. Flyer IDs are free and last for 5 years - you will be required to read and understand the drone and model aircraft code and pass an online theory test. Please note that the PDF file linked here is the June 2023 version of the code and you should ensure that you are using the most up to date version before sitting the test.
If you have your own drone with a camera that you wish to use and it is < 250g then no Flyer ID is required but you do still need to have your own Operator ID. If it is >250g then you will need to provide evidence of a valid Operator and Flyer ID before the course day.
If you need any further advice on this, please call me when booking the course and I will help you.
